1972 Jose 100W SL Mars/Holmes
Seeking to recreate the sound of a 1972 Marshall Super Lead with two different Jose mods. The first mod is the high gain Jose most similar to Joe Holmes’s amps. I used that mod to make the Jose GV/BV/G profiles.
For the JH profiles, I tried to recreate the Farmikos recording setup as well as I can. I used a Lexicon PCM41 in the Jose insert loop, which boosts the gain and changes the overall sound. I miced my 1991 1960BX cab with a 57/421 combo as was done for Farmikos and I tried to recreate the mic placement that was used on the record.
For the MM profiles, I tried to recreate the sound of the Mick Mars Dr. Feelgood Jose, which is a lower gain mod without any diode clipping. I also used the Greenbacks and miced them with a 57/421 combo, as that is the closest I have to Bob Rock’s go-to guitar mic setup.
